Vintage French Grès de Bonny Large Stoneware Confit / Storage Crock | Bonny-sur-

A beautiful and substantial piece of authentic French utilitarian stoneware, sourced directly from France.
This vintage Grès de Bonny barrel crock was produced in Bonny-sur-Loire, France, a village with a celebrated history of stoneware production dating back to the late 19th century.
Dating approximately to the 1930s–1950s, this impressive vessel features the wonderfully warm caramel-toned exterior characteristic of traditional Bonny stoneware, contrasted by a pale glazed interior. Applied ribbed side handles, a heavy rolled rim and delicate horizontal incised bands give the crock its unmistakable French country character.
The vessel retains its Bonny maker’s mark and impressed number “7.”
Originally created as functional household stoneware, vessels such as these were used in French kitchens for storing and preserving foods. Today, their sculptural forms and beautiful timeworn surfaces make them especially desirable as decorative pieces.
The provenance of this particular crock makes it even more special. It is part of a collection of vintage French stoneware that was recovered from an abandoned warehouse in France and subsequently brought to the United States. I was fortunate to acquire several pieces from this collection. Once these pieces are sold, I cannot guarantee that I will ever be able to source them again.
Display it on its own as an architectural accent or use it to hold branches, dried botanicals, kitchen utensils or a seasonal arrangement. At approximately 10 pounds, this is an exceptionally substantial piece of old French stoneware.
