Antique English Oak Barley Twist Candlesticks with Aged Metal Cups – 12-Inch Pai
Recently arrived from England by container, this handsome matched pair of antique barley-twist candlesticks dates to approximately 1920–1935.
Each candlestick stands approximately 12 inches tall and features a dramatically turned barley-twist column rising from a substantial circular base. The deeply colored oak has developed a wonderfully aged surface, with warm wood grain showing through the dark finish.
The candle cups have an exceptionally dark, naturally aged metal surface with muted warm undertones. Their oxidation, scratches, discoloration, wax residue, and pale deposits have been left untouched. They have not been polished or restored.
An especially desirable construction detail is revealed when the candlesticks are disassembled: the turned wooden sections connect using substantial wooden screw threads. Both candlesticks screw together tightly and feel secure when assembled.
Authentic English barley-twist candlesticks of this height and character are increasingly difficult to source in the United States. This pair offers the scale and presence collectors and designers look for when styling a mantel, dining table, library, entryway, or European-inspired interior.
